How to Use the Text Tool

Basic Steps:
  1. Click the Text Tool icon (capital A)
  2. Click where you want text to appear
  3. A text box will appear - type your words
  4. Use the font toolbar to change style
  5. Click outside box when finished
Important Tips:
  • Text box must be active to edit text

  • Make text box bigger by dragging corners

  1. Select Text Tool

  3. Choose color from palette
  4. Start typing - text will be that color!
  5. To change existing text color, you must retype it

Common Text Tool Problems

Don't worry if you have problems - here are solutions to common issues!

Problem: Can't Edit Text

You clicked away from text box!

Solution: Press Ctrl+Z to undo, then retype your text correctly. Remember: In MS Paint, text becomes part of the drawing once you click away!
Problem: Text Too Small

Font size is too tiny to read!

Solution: Before typing, choose a larger font size (24+). If already typed, undo and retype with bigger size. Use Zoom tool to read small text.
Problem: White Box Around Text

Opaque background covering drawing!

Solution: Click the "Transparent" option in the text toolbar (two overlapping squares icon). This makes background see-through!
Problem: Wrong Font

Text doesn't look how you wanted!

Solution: Undo and select correct font BEFORE typing. Or select text and change font while text box is still active. Check font preview in toolbar.
