Introduction

Welcome to Day 3! Today, you'll learn English numbers and counting. Numbers are essential for daily life - for telling time, shopping, giving phone numbers, and much more.

Learning Tip: English numbers follow predictable patterns. Once you learn 1-20 and the tens (20, 30, 40...), you can easily form all other numbers.

Basic Numbers 1-10

Start with the foundation - numbers 1 through 10 with Telugu translations and pronunciation.

Numbers 11-20

These numbers have unique names. Learn them carefully as they form the basis for higher numbers.

Pattern Notice

Numbers 13-19 all end with "-teen". This pattern continues for all teen numbers. The stress is usually on the "-teen" part.

Tens Numbers (20, 30, 40...)

Learn the tens numbers. These will help you form all numbers up to 99.

Forming Other Numbers

Example: 25 = Twenty + five = Twenty-five. 38 = Thirty + eight = Thirty-eight. Notice the hyphen (-) between tens and units.

Ordinal Numbers (1st, 2nd, 3rd...)

Ordinal numbers show position or order (first, second, third, etc.). They're used for dates, rankings, and sequences.

Special Cases: 1st, 2nd, 3rd are irregular. For most others, add "-th" to the number: four → fourth, six → sixth, ten → tenth. Exceptions: five → fifth, eight → eighth, nine → ninth, twelve → twelfth.

Shopkeeper:
"2 kilograms will be 160 rupees."
"రెండు కిలోలకు నూట అరవై రూపాయలు."
Customer:
"Here is 200 rupees."
"ఇది మీరు తీసుకోండి, రెండు వందల రూపాయలు."
Shopkeeper:
"Thank you. Here is your change - 40 rupees."

Important Numbers to Remember

Some numbers are used frequently in daily life.

Phone Numbers

In English, we say each digit separately: 9876543210 = "nine eight seven six five four three two one zero"

Money

100 = "one hundred" or "a hundred"
1,000 = "one thousand"
1,00,000 = "one lakh" (Indian system)

Time

7:00 = "seven o'clock"
7:15 = "seven fifteen" or "quarter past seven"
7:30 = "seven thirty" or "half past seven"
